Lapse in Appropriations

Please note that a lapse in appropriations has caused GAO to shut down its operations. Therefore, GAO will not be able to publish reports or otherwise update this website until GAO resumes operations. In addition, the vast majority of GAO personnel are not permitted to work. Consequently, calls or emails to agency personnel may not be returned until GAO resumes operations. Learning Center (LC)

GAO is a professional services organization in which employees are expected and invited to participate in continuous learning. Accordingly, GAO’s Learning Center promotes a full life cycle of learning that provides training to staff at all stages of their GAO careers.  In addition to elective courses in a myriad of topics, this cycle of learning includes onboarding and orientation for newly hired staff, a formal structured technical training program that GAO requires of staff in their first 2 years as part of the GAO professional development program, skills training for staff newly promoted to supervisory positions, manager training for new managers, and a formal training program for candidates in GAO’s executive candidate assessment and development program.  Modes of training include eLearning, virtual webinars, classroom-based training, and on-demand training. Throughout their careers, staff also may participate in formal mentoring and coaching programs.

The Learning Center staff serve on teams that provide:

  • technical skills training related to the field of auditing and conducting engagements;
  • cross-cutting technical, communications, client and external relations, technology, and public administration skills training;
  • training and programs on GAO’s Core Values;
  • leadership and executive development training and programs, coaching, and mentoring at all levels of the organization; and
  • training and support of GAO’s adjunct faculty and as well as management of the resources, systems, policies, and processes required to enable a quality learning environment.
