GAO discussed the printing and typesetting support services the Government Printing Office (GPO) has provided. GAO noted that: (1) GPO procurement through long-term contract programs has provided reliable and quality printing service and support; and (2) one-time contracts that required a quick turnaround time have not been as satisfactory. GAO believes that: (1) commercial printers should be responsible for their publications; and (2) more flexibility in application would be desirable, especially for agencies that must meet very strict requirements.
