Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO investigated the practice by executive departments and agencies of providing home-to-work transportation to certain employees, focusing on: (1) the amounts of overtime incurred by chauffeurs and drivers and the need for it; (2) the validity of agencies' justification for such transportation; and (3) the cost effectiveness of using alternative methods of transportation.
