Highlights

Many federal programs established over the past two decades are directed toward increasing the numbers of disadvantaged and minority students in the health professions. Currently, these programs are separately administered by various entities within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Education. In June 1979, the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare established a task force to review efforts to improve access in the health professions for disadvantaged and minority individuals.
