Highlights

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on 10 major national drug surveys and the extent to which certain variables were included in these surveys. GAO noted that: (1) the 10 major drug surveys covered client populations, the general population, and high-risk target groups; (2) nine of the surveys were sponsored by federal agencies and the tenth by a service organization; and (3) the surveys disclosed 38 familial and 20 religious or spiritual variables that affected participants' drug behavior.
