Security Protection

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on executive security protection costs for three cabinet departments from fiscal years 1989 through 1991. GAO noted that the: (1) three departments' executive security protection costs ranged from $72,954 to $300,230 for fiscal year (FY) 1989, nothing to $366,763 for FY 1990, and $3,018 to $303,155 for FY 1991; and (2) departments provided security protection for their cabinet secretaries only during the period reviewed.
