A Federal Highway Administration employee requested reimbursement for real estate expenses incurred incident to a transfer of his official duty station.
GAO found that the law requires specifically that the settlement date fall within 2 years from the data of the employee's transfer in order for the employee to be entitled to reimbursement for real estate expenses. Because the employee's transfer was effective August 31, 1975 and he did not go to settlement within the 2 year window, GAO found that there is no authority under which the employee may be reimbursed.
