GAO provided information from a survey of selected GAO employees on computer and software use in a network environment. GAO found that: (1) 80 percent of the respondents stated that the network and electronic mail were much faster and easier for sending and receiving automated files than the previous method in the stand-alone setting; (2) the staff believed that the network setting provided a faster and easier means to use some software packages; (3) the staff found Windows software easier and faster to work with the more they used it; (4) 94 percent of the employees who used the network for performing assignment tasks were satisfied with the system; and (5) most employees believed that, if the network was installed GAO-wide, communications and workflows would improve.
