An opinion was requested concerning the manner in which the weight of a government employee's household goods was determined. The employee was concerned that an inaccurate weight calculation would result in excess costs to him and to the government. An examination of the procedures and circumstances surrounding the computation of the weight of household goods, as reported by the agency, showed that the methodology employed was sound and in accordance with the provisions of applicable travel regulations. Certainly, if the employee had any question concerning the accuracy of the determination of net weight, he should have requested his shipment be reweighed at destination. This would have verified the accuracy of the method used.
