GAO Education Products

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO summarized its written products on the Department of Education's program activities from January 1990 to February 1995, focusing on selected budgetary categories, including: (1) education reform; (2) elementary and secondary education; (3) bilingual education and minority languages affairs; (4) special education and rehabilitative services; (5) vocational and adult education; (6) postsecondary education; (7) program administration; and (8) civil rights. GAO noted issues for congressional consideration such as the need to target federal resources to areas most in need of compensatory education services and demographic changes affecting the distribution of Title I funding across states.
