GAO reviewed the Social Security Administration's (SSA) service to employers in resolving wage reporting issues. GAO noted that: (1) most of the employers contacted were satisfied with SSA services; (2) some employers had trouble reaching knowledgeable SSA headquarters staff to help resolve their wage related issues; (3) employers could not confirm whether SSA corrected their wage reports after they submitted additional information to SSA headquarters; and (4) SSA headquarters staff need to be more knowledgeable about wage reporting, be able to respond to a wide range of wage reporting questions or direct callers to the appropriate source for technical assistance, and provide written feedback to employers who submit additional wage data.
