Leased Federal Office Space

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the exemption certifications for automatic fire sprinklers issued by the General Services Administration (GSA) during the period of October 26, 1994 through April 30, 1995. GAO noted that, during the first 6 months that the regulations were in effect, GSA did not issue any exemptions to the requirement that certain leased space either have automatic fire sprinklers or an equivalent level of safety.
