Manufacturing Extension Programs

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on federal funding of manufacturing extension centers. GAO noted that: (1) the National Institute of Standards and Technology funded nine manufacturing extension centers, for a total of $16.8 million in fiscal year (FY) 1994 and $56.9 million in FY 1995; (2) the Technology Reinvestment Project (TRP) funded 36 manufacturing extension centers in two rounds; (3) TRP Round 1 funding totalled about $35.8 million in FY 1994 and totals about $36.9 million for FY 1995; and (4) TRP Round 2 funding totals about $10.9 million for FY 1995.
