A proposed bill would relieve a Government employee of his liability of $1,912.16 to the United States. The liability resulted from an overpayment of a travel advance incident to a permanent change of duty station. GAO disallowed the employee's claim for the total cost of his move and denied a request for waiver of debt for the overpayment since there was no legal authority for either. GAO believed that enactment of the proposed bill would result in preferential treatment of the individual over others in similar situations.
