Reimbursement of Government Employees for Transportation Purchased through Travel Agents

A decision was requested on the propriety of reimbursing members or civilian employees of the uniformed services for the cost of tickets purchased with personal funds from travel agents for official travel within the United States. Members or civilian employees may be reimbursed for an amount not exceeding the cost of transportation procured from the carrier. The Joint Travel Regulations may be amended to permit procurement of passenger transportation from travel agencies for group or charter arrangements.
