Michael Clements is a Director in GAO’s Financial Markets and Community Investment team. He leads GAO’s work overseeing the financial markets and their regulators. His portfolio includes the federal banking regulators—the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the National Credit Union Administration—the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, among others.

Michael joined GAO in September 1999. In addition to his current portfolio, Michael’s prior GAO experience includes 15 years examining the regulation of the broadband, communications, and telecommunications industries. Michael also has 4 years accounting and financial planning and analysis experience in the private sector and 7 years experience teaching economics and finance.

Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Cincinnati and master’s and doctorate degrees in public policy and management from the Ohio State University.
