The costs of the Administration's efforts in 1978 to inform the public on the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT II) with the Soviet Union were estimated to be approximately $600,000. The Department of State and the Arms Control Disarmament Agency (ACDA) furnished officials for speaking engagements, arranged conferences, prepared and distributed publications, and provided interviews and press releases for the media. State and ACDA officials participated in about 350 individual speaking engagements. These agencies and the Department of Defense also participated in 11 conferences arranged by State.
