Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the extent to which the Job Corps Program is operating at the state-level. GAO noted that: (1) nationally, about 54 percent of Job Corps participants received Job Corps training in their state of residence in 1993, but the percentage per state varied considerably; (2) 6 states had no Job Corps centers operating within their borders; and (3) states' capacity to accommodate their Job Corps participants varied from 97 percent excess-capacity to 58 percent under-capacity for those states having Job Corps centers.
