Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed investigations conducted by the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) concerning foreign countries' protection of intellectual property rights, focusing on the: (1) countries identified by USTR as having inadequate levels of intellectual property protection; and (2) number of cases initiated by USTR in response to U.S. industry petitions regarding inadequate foreign protection of intellectual property rights.
