Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the equal employment opportunity (EEO) program for civilian personnel at Fort Lee, Virginia.

Fort Lee, VA The Commanding General, Fort Lee, should ensure that Fort Lee sets and meets milestones for: (1) establishing written EEO policies and procedures; and (2) clarifying EEO performance standards.
Closed – Implemented
EEO policies, procedures, and performance standards approved by the Army Training and Doctrine Command and Department of the Army headquarters were issued. EEO performance standards were issued in December 1989 and updated in February 1991.
Fort Lee, VA The Commanding General, Fort Lee, should determine why the resolution of formal discrimination complaints has generally exceeded the Army's standard and take appropriate corrective actions.
Closed – Implemented
Fort Lee has modified its automated personnel system to permit tracking of formal complaints, allowing points of delays and their causes to be identified.
