GAO reviewed the Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Workers' Compensation Programs' new rule on claims for compensation under the Energy Employee Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. GAO found that (1) the rule established a new Part E of the program that contains a new system of variable federal payments for Department of Energy contractor employees, uranium workers covered by section 5 of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, and eligible survivors of such employees; and (2) DOL complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
