Highlights

GAO reviewed the Department of Justice's (DOJ) new rule entitled "Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities." GAO found that the final rule revises the regulation implementing title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act to establish specific requirements, including the adoption of specific technical standards, for making accessible the services, programs, and activities offered by state and local government entities to the public through the web and mobile applications.

Enclosed is our assessment of DOJ's compliance with the procedural steps required by section 801(a)(1)(B)(i) through (iv) of title 5 with respect to this final rule. If you have any questions about this report or wish to contact GAO officials responsible for the evaluation work relating to the subject matter of the rule, please contact Charlie McKiver, Assistant General Counsel, at (202) 512-5992.
