GAO reviewed the Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) new rule entitled "Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards for Model Years 2024–2026 Passenger Cars and Light Trucks." GAO found that the final rule revised fuel economy standards for passenger cars and light trucks for model years (MYs) 2024–2025 that increase at a rate of 8 percent per year, and increase at a rate of 10 percent per year for MY 2026 vehicles.

Enclosed is our assessment of NHTSA's compliance with the procedural steps required by section 801(a)(1)(B)(i) through (iv) of title 5 with respect to the rule.
