The Army requested a decision on an employee's claim for relocation expenses pursuant to his transfer of duty stations. The employee claimed reimbursement for his moving, temporary lodging, and boarding expenses for himself and his dependents. GAO held that the employee was entitled to reimbursement of his: (1) moving expenses at the commuted rate, since he was authorized to ship his goods under the commuted rate method; and (2) temporary lodging and boarding expenses for himself and his dependents, since unusual circumstances prevented the employee from occupying temporary quarters at his new duty station.
