Highlights

The Forest Service requested a decision regarding an employee's claim for additional overtime compensation for travel he performed outside normal duty hours pursuant to a firefighting emergency. The claimant contended that he was entitled to such overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). GAO held that: (1) FLSA made no provision for overtime compensation for travel outside of normal duty hours; and (2) amendments to other overtime compensation legislation made no reference to FLSA. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
