A Bureau of Prisons employee claimed overtime compensation for activities related to firefighting while performing his job as a safety manager, contending that written descriptions of his duties and training schedules constituted official approval of the overtime worked. GAO held that the claimant's supervisor did not order or approve the overtime and there was no inducement for the claimant to continue to perform the overtime work. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
