The Air Force requested a decision regarding a transferred employee's claim for reimbursement for real estate expenses. The Air Force advised that the claimant, while awaiting word on job transfer possibilities at various locations, contracted for the sale of his residence and vacated it. GAO held that the claimant's sale of his residence was not incident to his transfer, since the Air Force did not definitely inform him of his transfer until after he contracted for sale and vacated the residence. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
