Highlights

A Navy employee claimed reimbursement for commuting expenses incident to a temporary reassignment, contending that regulations authorized a travel allowance when the distance between duty stations exceeded 10 miles. GAO held that the: (1) regulations in question were applicable only to permanent transfers; and (2) claimant was responsible for the costs of commuting between his residence and his workplace. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
