[Decision Concerning Request for Waiver of Interior Employee's Indebtedness for Erroneous Overpayment of Merit Pay]

The Department of the Interior requested waiver of a salary overpayment to an employee whose salary it erroneously raised. GAO held that: (1) Interior's accounting system was to blame for the error; and (2) the employee had no reason to know of the error. Accordingly, waiver was granted.
