A firm's agent protested an Army sole-source contract award for engine crankshafts, contending that the Army's unreasonable delay in approving the firm's alternate part deprived it of the opportunity to compete. GAO held that the Army: (1) reasonably established that only one known source for the product existed; (2) properly established its immediate need for the product; and (3) did not delay or fail to expedite approval of the alternate part. Accordingly, the protest was denied.
