A retired Public Health Service employee requested reconsideration of the Claims Group's denial of his claim for expenses he incurred in obtaining his automobile's release from impoundment after he shipped it overseas to his retirement location. GAO held that the employee was: (1) entitled to reimbursement for the cost of shipping his automobile; and (2) not entitled to reimbursement for any brokerage fees, handling charges, or storage costs. Accordingly, the claim was denied in part and allowed in part.
