[Decision Concerning DLA Employee's Claim for Reimbursement of Air Travel Expenses]

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) requested a decision concerning an employee's claim for reimbursement for the difference between the actual cost of his air travel from his temporary duty station to his permanent duty station and the cost that DLA allowed, based on a constructive cost comparison. GAO noted that the employee chose not to return to his permanent station on the next available flight after completion of his temporary duty because of personal preference. GAO held that the employee was not entitled to reimbursement for the extra expense he incurred by delaying his flight for his own convenience. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
