Highlights
In response to a congressional request, questions were addressed concerning the responsibility of the Army Corps of Engineers to operate and maintain the streambank stabilization structures constructed within the boundaries of the Missouri National Recreational River. GAO noted that the Corps and the Department of the Interior had entered into a cooperative agreement for the recreational segment of the river under which the Corps designs, constructs, operates, and maintains the structures and Interior has administrative responsibilities. Under this agreement, the Corps also makes budget requests for these purposes.
