[Query Concerning Whether There Is Authorization for Federal Employees To Retain State Juror Fees in Texas State Court]

GAO was asked for a decision as to whether employees of the Department of the Treasury who reside in Texas may retain fees received for jury service in the state courts. It has been the policy of Treasury to require its employees who reside in Texas to remit to the government any fees received for jury service in the state's courts. However, the Texas statute which provides for the payment of jurors was amended in 1979, and the fees payable were designated as per diem allowances.
