Highlights

This document is regarding a congressional constituent's suggestion that GAO study the subject of purchasing insurance to avoid losses when computers suffer casualty damage. Staff from GAO's Los Angeles Regional office investigated the incident the constituent cited, and GAO found that there was a sprinkler malfunction which caused damages estimated at 1.8 million. GAO determined that while they appreciate the constituent's interest in helping the Government save money, the Government has a long-established policy for self-insuring its property, and no further study will be needed.
