Claim for Extraordinary Expenses Incident to Overseas Assignment

Highlights

An Air Force member requested consideration of his claim for reimbursement of extraordinary expenses incurred incident to his permanent change of station to an overseas station. The member's claim for additional temporary lodging allowance was not authorized since his overseas commander, who had sole authority to determine whether the member incurred undue financial hardship for purposes of the allowance, denied his request for the allowance. The member was entitled to a housing allowance for the entire period except for any period during which he received a temporary lodging allowance. The member was not entitled to reimbursement of expenses for temporary storage of his household goods beyond 180 days since applicable regulations specifically limit reimbursement to that time length.
