Highlights

The attorney for plaintiff Lynda M. Burns, also acting on behalf of Gloria Felder and Betty Ann Henschen, requested reconsideration of the disallowance of interest on part of a judgment awarded against the United States in a wrongful death action suit. The Federal Tort Claims Act judgment awarded more than $100,000 to the named plaintiffs and also made awards of less than $100,000 to the named plaintiffs on behalf of their children; the lesser awards were correctly paid. Ordinarily interest would be disallowed since the transcript of the judgment was not filed with GAO as required; however, GAO has a duty to pay the interest here in compliance with the specific terms of the final judgment.
