Reimbursement of Forfeited Deposit on Residence Incident to Second Transfer

An advance decision was requested as to whether an employee could be reimbursed for the deposit he forfeited when he was prevented by a second transfer from completing the purchase of a new home incident to the first transfer. The $100 deposit the employee forfeited when he failed to complete the purchase may be reimbursed as a miscellaneous expense under the Federal Travel Regulations, subject to the limitations on the amount payable contained in the applicable regulations.
