Request for Access to GAO Written Reports of Interviews

Henry J. Sauer, of the Manufacturing Chemists Association, requested access to GAO's reports of interviews with several member chemical manufacturing companies and trade associations relating to the GAO report, "The Federal Government Should Establish and Meet Energy Conservation Goals." Since respondents were guaranteed by GAO, before being interviewed, that individual and company positions would not be identified, disclosure would be a breach of that pledge. Information received by the Government in confidence or where the Government has promised not to reveal information elicited, is exempted from disclosure. If the firms interviewed consent to the release of the information to the Manufacturing Chemists Association, it will be made available.
