GAO provided comments on a claim for reimbursement of doctor's fees, which included state taxes, under the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS) program. GAO held that the underlying contract between the vendor and CHAMPUS provided for reimbursement of reasonable charges for authorized services. Even if part of the fee is defined as a tax, it may properly be viewed as a portion of the fee charged by the doctor. Accordingly, GAO had no objection to the claimant's claimant being paid by CHAMPUS.
