GAO discussed a major Department of Energy (DOE) cleanup project to remediate wastes buried in Pit 9 at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, focusing on: (1) (DOE) basis for selecting a fixed-price contracting approach and a subcontract for the project; (2) the basis for awarding the subcontract to Lockheed Martin Advanced Environmental Systems (LMAES); and (3) the current status of the project.
