Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed whether mandatory use of 6-inch or larger size pipes in all Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) water distribution projects would be feasible and lead to lower fire insurance rates for rural Mississippi homeowners.
GAO found that mandatory use of 6-inch or larger pipes on all FmHA water distribution projects would not be feasible, would be very expensive, and would not necessarily improve fire protection or lower fire insurance rates.
