This report is designed to assist Congress during its consideration of the fiscal year 1982 budget by identifying ways to reduce Federal spending and increase Federal revenues. The report is divided into three chapters. The first chapter provides GAO views on the Congressional Budget Office's options for reducing the Federal budget and notes the specific GAO official to contact for more detailed discussions. The second chapter contains other cost-saving proposals developed by GAO. Chapter three contains GAO views on selected proposals contained in the previously submitted budget for fiscal year 1982.
