Lobbyists' Registrations

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the number of organizations and individuals who registered or were identified as lobbyists with the Secretary of the Senate. GAO noted that the: (1) combined number of organizations and individuals who were registered or identified as lobbyists has more than doubled under the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995; and (2) number of organizations increased from 1,299 to 2,778, and the number of individuals registered or identified as lobbyists increased from 4,779 to 9,976, which includes 447 self-employed lobbyists.
