Highlights

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) requested a decision on a deceased transferred employee's dependents' entitlement for relocation expenses. GAO noted that: (1) the NASA employee died before reporting to his new duty station; (2) his household goods had already been shipped to the new location; and (3) his dependents moved to the location after he died. GAO held that: (1) NASA was responsible for payment of travel and relocation expenses incurred prior to the employee's death; and (2) relocation expenses after the employee's death may not be reimbursed. Accordingly, the claim was allowed in part and denied in part.
