The National Park Service (NPS) requested a decision regarding an employee's claim for reimbursement for relocation expenses he incurred when his promotion required that he move from goverment to private quarters, contending that a previous decision allowed for such reimbursement. GAO held that: (1) the previous decision, which involved an employee transfer, was not applicable to the instant claim, which involved a promotion; and (2) NPS could reimburse the claimant for the cost of moving his household goods out of the government quarters, since his occupancy of the quarters was an agency requirement. Accordingly, the claim was allowed in part and denied in part.
