The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) requested a decision regarding a transferred employee's claim for extended temporary quarters subsistence expenses. The claimant contended that, since his mortgage loan for his new residence was cancelled, he required additional time to have another residence built. GAO held that, since the claimant knew that his initial residence would not be completed within the authorized temporary quarters period, the cancellation of the mortgage for that residence did not cause his occupancy of temporary quarters to extend beyond that period. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
