Highlights

The Department of Labor requested a decision concerning a transferred employee's claim for reimbursement for temporary quarters subsistence expenses for himself and his family. Labor had reimbursed the claimant for his expenses only because his family had resided at the new duty station for only 2 months before returning to the old duty station until the sale of their home 2 years later. GAO held that, since the employee put his residence up for sale before the transfer and shipped his household goods to the new duty station, there was sufficient evidence of his intent to vacate his former residence. Accordingly, the claim was allowed.
