[Comments on DILTS Liability for Damage to Leased Vehicles]

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO commented on the Lowry Air Force Base Defense Industrial Liaison and Training Staff's liability for damage to leased vehicles. GAO noted that: (1) the federal government is a self-insurer and does not purchase commercial insurance for motor vehicle leasing; and (2) if a leased vehicle is damaged or if a third party suffers damage or injury, the government would pay for the damages from appropriated funds.
