GAO was asked to render a decision regarding the entitlement of an employee of the U.S. Geological Survey to reimbursement for real estate expenses incurred incident to his transfer. The employee was assigned temporary duty at various locations and was transferred to his last temporary duty station while he was still serving there. GAO held that the employee could be reimbursed for the real estate expenses despite the fact that the house that he sold was not his actual residence at the time of the transfer, because the employee was constantly in a travel status.
